Anthony Atala: Printing a human kidney

Taavi @ 08.03.2011 08:57 | Registreerunud: 01.04.2003

Surgeon Anthony Atala demonstrates an early-stage experiment that could someday solve the organ-donor problem: a 3D printer that uses living cells to output a transplantable kidney. Using similar technology, Dr. Atala's young patient Luke Massella received an engineered bladder 10 years ago; we meet him onstage.

RepRap

... printer prindib väärt kraami ja iseennast ... sigaodavalt

RepRap is a free desktop 3D printer capable of printing plastic objects. Since many parts of RepRap are made from plastic and RepRap can print those parts, RepRap is a self-replicating machine - one that anyone can build given time and materials. It also means that - if you've got a RepRap - you can print lots of useful stuff, and you can print another RepRap for a friend...
RepRap is about making self-replicating machines, and making them freely available for the benefit of everyone. We are using 3D printing to do this, but if you have other technologies that can copy themselves and that can be made freely available to all, then this is the place for you too.
Reprap.org is a community project, which means you are welcome to edit most pages on this site, or better yet, create new pages of your own. Airbus loodab 3D printerite abil lennuki luua

Loen minutist:
"3D printimine on kõikvõimalike objektide loomiseks kiire ja mugav lahendus. Lennundusinsenerid Airbus'i projekti juurest uurivad aga võimalusi printida terveid lennuki osi - esialgu on ette võetud ühes tükis lennuki tiiva printimine. Samas hoones kus kunagi pandi Concorde reisilennukeid kokku, on valmistatud näiteks maandumisteliku klambreid. Tavalise plastiku asemel on lisaks kasutusel veel muud materjalid - nii klaas kui titaansulam kõlbab samuti printimismaterjaliks. Oma ala asjatundjad teavad rääkida, et praegusel hetkel 20 protsenti maailma 3D printeritest valmistab juba valmistooteid, aastaks 2020 peaks juba pool nende toodangust otse müügiks minema."

Peatselt võib olla ka võimalik omale prinditud langevarjude soetamine.

Michael Guslick, Amateur Gunsmith, Claims To Have Used 3D Printer To Make Functional Semiautomatic AR-15 Rifle At Home

Taavi @ 27.09.2012 23:28 | Registreerunud: 01.04.2003

Guslick, an engineer who operates under the moniker 'HaveBlue,' had previously announced in an online forum that he had successfully fired 200 rounds from his custom-made, 3-D printed .22 caliber pistol. The pistol was partially made out of plastic, having been created from a 3-D printed lower receiver and a commercial upper receiver.

In other words, the main body of the gun was made of plastic and printed at home. Guslick told The Huffington Post that he had obtained gun blueprints from a website before using his 3-D printer to print the component. To complete the weapon, he then combined it with off-the-shelf metal parts.

Guslick said that the resulting gun was a success.

"Everything ran just as it should, magazine after magazine,” Guslick described in a blog post. “To be honest, it was acting more reliably than a number of other .22 pistols I’ve shot.”

US military invests in 3D printing on the frontline

Taavi @ 12.11.2012 18:12 | Registreerunud: 01.04.2003

the US military is developing its own 3D printers for the frontline which will enable soldiers to quickly and cheaply produce spare parts for their weapons and equipment.

By bringing the new technology to the battlefield, troops will be able to produce spare parts for sensitive equipment, such as GPS receivers and air drones, without having to wait weeks for new deliveries.

“Parts for these systems break frequently, and many of them are produced overseas, so there’s a long lead time for replacement parts,” said operations research analyst D. Shannon Berry in a statement.
